nicole + doug engaged

I absolutely adore engagement sessions for many reasons. One, it gives me the opportunity to really get to know my clients as a couple. And secondly, it gives a newly engaged couple an hour to just spend in each others arms… in the flurry that is planning a wedding, a session like this can be a good reminder to take time to just ‘be’. Sometimes it’s easy to forget to make time for a cuddle, or a stop on the beach to watch the sunset, or to take an umbrella for a walk in the rain… life is crazy busy sometimes, and when you take a photo from your engagement session and frame it on the wall, it can be that reminder to take time to just be together… so I love engagement sessions. Yup, I just do.

Up till this point, I had only met Nicole – this lovely, very sweet girl with these gorgeous eyes! And I couldn’t wait to meet Doug, the guy that stole her heart…

The three of us finally met, and at first they were a little shy. But I love shy! It brought out some pretty cute giggles and sweet moments between them. And as our time went by the two of them settled into their groove, and I could see their relationship coming through the camera.

N + D, I had a great time meeting the both of you, and I can’t wait for your wedding next summer. I hope you enjoy these photos, that will hopefully act as a reminder of exactly who you are together and the importance of a good snuggle!

stew + kirsty

I remember the e-mail popping up in my inbox as I was finishing up my morning e-mailing… and I thought, “is that ‘Kirsty’ Kirsty?!”

Yes it was. Her and Stew were getting hitched, and I was so excited! I have known Kirsty for many moons. We first met when working together at the Kelowna Lululemon store when it first opened. That was seriously an amazing experience. We truly were a team, and the women that I met during that time still mean the world to me. Kirsty is still rockin’ out at Lulu, being the Western Canadian Rep for the stores. She is amazing. She is this incredible business woman, she’s bendy because of all the yoga, she’s so fun, so sweet, and a serious catch.

And then there’s Stew. Stew and Kirsty also met while working at a restaurant many years ago! Stew managed to ‘woo’ Kirsty into a few dates, which has grown into this great relationship. The two of them are both so ambitious and are always chasing their dreams. They have built a life together in the big city of Calgary, and are always out and about, whether its with work, with family or with friends. They are cherished by the people that know them, because that is also how they treat the people in their life. How they treat each other…

Don’t get me wrong, these kids can be crazy and ridiculous, but always with big hearts.

S+K, I am so excited for your wedding this coming summer. Not only is it going to be a rockin’ party, but it is going to be a celebration of a beautiful love. Thank you for inviting us to be a part of it!

Raw Beauty

Beautiful. Unique.

More often than not, women struggle to believe that we are beautiful and unique. We are trained to want to look like the models in the magazine. We are trained to buy things to help us look like the models in the magazine. We beat ourselves up because in reality, we will never look like the models in the magazine.

Most important, is we need to realize this is a good thing! Each and every person in this entire world is different. So why do we try so hard to be the same? And don’t get me wrong, I am a lover of fashion and clothing and make-up and hairstyles. I love to flip through a good magazine and see what is new in the world of fashion. I am a girl, no doubt. But as time has passed, I’ve stopped just ‘copying’ to try to fit in, but I pick what I truly love and what I feel really fits ME. What is going to express exactly who I am. The beautiful-ness and unique-ness that is me.

These sessions; these Raw Beauty sessions are designed to be just that. Not a time to be someone else. Not a time to put on a mask, but let go of our masks. Let go of our hiding spots, and find the most beautiful side of ourselves. And have some fun while we’re at it!

I am offering my very first day of sessions on Saturday, November 3rd! With just 2 spots left, if you are interested, send me a message and we’ll start planning your session.

family of 3

There are not many spots prettier than Naramata. It’s a little slice of heaven placed on the side of Okanagan Lake, and Michelle thought this would be the perfect place for her family photo session. Between the sage brush and the stunning vista view, I couldn’t find a bad spot! The wind was out, but I think it only added to the beauty of the day.

Michelle is also a photographer in Kelowna (Memories by Michelle), and I was absolutely honored to photograph her family. She had bought a gift certificate to raise money to support another photographer in need, and I am so proud to be a part of a group who supports each other in business and in life. Thank you for being a part of this, and I hope you enjoy your photos!

darin + alyssa married

They met in the forests of BC, they were engaged at the top of a mountain, and their journey continues as they married on the shores of Comox Lake.

Once you meet Alyssa + Darin, you can see the love that binds them together. They understand each other. They appreciate each other. They respect each other. And through all of that, they are beginning a life together that is uniquely them, and I adore that about them.

But this day – this wedding day, was beautiful and emotional. Darin + Alyssa chose to see each other before the ceremony, and it was at this moment that I could see how much they love each other. As Alyssa and I walked down from the hotel room, I could feel her nerves tingling through her body. But once we reached the lawn, and as soon as her and Darin locked eyes, I saw all her anxiety melt away. She was in the arms of her man, and it was perfect…

I wish you two nothing but love for your marriage. I know the two of you, plus your lovely puppy Lucy, your new chickens and your new goat, will be so unbelievably happy navigating the waters ahead…

thankful for

With Thanksgiving coming up this weekend, I’ve been thinking what I am thankful for this year. This question always feels so BIG, because really, I am thankful for a million things! But what is top of the list, or most ‘all encompassing’?

One that I always say, and will always say, is I am thankful for my family and my friends. This past weekend at Christina’s wedding was a beautiful reminder of how lucky we are. It was a weekend (that’s right, not just a day, but a weekend) of celebration, of food, of games (corn hole and ladder golf being the faves), of conversation, swimming, boating and more. I am so blessed with an incredible family that I will always love and cherish.

I am also thankful for feeling good! I had some days this year when I felt absolutely stepped on, and it truly makes you appreciate the days when the ol’ body is in tip top shape.

And the last one, let’s just put it simply. I am thankful.
Thankful of where I live, who I know, the freedom I have, the love I have, the joy I see around me all the time. I am so blinkin’ lucky to have this life, and I am thankful for that big blessing.

Because every post is better with a photo, here is a sneak from Christina and Mike’s wedding. They were lucky enough to have Justine Russo be their photographer for the day, but I managed to sneak one or two!
