Starting a post for someone like Sara is tough. She has such a special place in my heart, and it’s hard to know where to start…
Sara and I grew up together right from Kindergarten on. We have shared in many birthdays, many days at the beach, school projects and a lot of ridiculous soccer and ski memories. Not only have I known her for most of my life, but every time I see her now, I am blown away by the beautiful and caring woman she has become. She has always had a soft heart, but add the confidence, the strength and courage, she has transformed into someone who is making a difference in this world.
After highschool had finished, Sara and I chose different paths, so as we’ve grown up these past 10 years, I’ve had to watch her from afar. Seeing her every few years, we try our best to get caught up on all the new adventures, but every time I hug her good-bye, there’s a little twang in my heart, because I know it will be awhile before I see her again.
This time was really special though. Sara had asked me to do some engagement photos for her and her fiance, Rob. I hadn’t met Rob yet, but definitely heard about him, so I was so excited to finally see them together! Rob and Sara got engaged 2 years ago, and are now in the final stretch, with just 4 more months to go to their wedding. They have chosen to get married in the same place Rob proposed to Sara on the edge of Okanagan Lake, and I couldn’t be more happy for them.
Thank you S+R for asking me to take these photos for you, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Little Caitlyn looking like a flower… a sneak of their family session with more coming soon.
Just a tiny taste of what is to come. So beautiful, this girl…

Another beauty in the studio. Love.
Since I blogged about how to prepare for an engagement shoot, I thought it would be fitting to follow up with how to prepare for your wedding photos!
Of course, there are a million books and blogs out there to help with preparing for weddings, but here are just a couple from a photographers perspective!
First tip: create a detailed timeline with your photographer, so that both of you are aware of how the day will unfold. I will always work with my couples to ensure there is enough time allotted for the portrait session, and offer my advise on any sections of the day they are unsure of. I have been to my fair share of weddings, and I love to help in any way I can!
Second tip: try to make time for a sunset portrait. Even if it’s just 10 minutes! They are almost always my favourite portraits from the day and it can be a welcome little sneak-out from the reception to catch some fresh air and snuggles with your new hubby!
Third tip: always bring a pair of sandals or extra flats in the car. If you are planning to go to any locations where you have to walk… even if it doesn’t look that far? Let me tell you, those 4 inch heels will make 20 metres feel like a million miles.
Fourth tip: if you are having your photographer join you as your prepare for the day, try to choose a location that you are excited to have photos taken in. Always make sure there is a nice window, and we all know girls can get a little messy when it comes to getting ready, but if you can save one little area that doesn’t get hit by all the bridesmaids, PERFECT! That is where your photographer can create some beautiful images of you in the final stages of getting ready, without the clutter that comes with a wedding.
There are a lot more tips where those came from, but for today let me leave you with this… Do as much research you can before the big day, so that on the day of the wedding, you get to just enjoy the ride!
Today is a big day for my little photography business. It’s the first official day of Janelle Photography.
I know, I know… you are all wondering, ‘but where is Paperclip Collective going’?
Well, no worries, because WE are going nowhere. Christina + I have realized, that as both of our businesses grow and change, we both needed our own unique websites that better showcase our own personalities and strengths. But we are still under the ever-fabulous umbrella of Paperclip Collective. One day soon, you will see Paperclip come back to play with some new and exciting changes. But one step at a time! So, today is about introducing you to my new photography website and brand, Janelle Photography.
Of course, the brand, the website, the blog, THE EVERYTHING is the work of Christina, who has become a guru in business branding and website design. If you haven’t come across it yet, Christina has a gorgeous design website at Paperclip Creative, and is working on creating a special addition for her wedding work. That will also be coming down the pipeline in the near future, so keep your eyes and ears to the ground!
For now, please take a moment to cruise my new site! Watch the little video, check out the new galleries and feel free to leave me some feedback on what you think!
I’ve been a little delinquent lately with my blog posts, but I am so excited to say, that there is a reason. In less than a week, I should have a brand spankin’ new website and blog to show you! In the meantime, I ask that you be patient with me, and as soon as the new blog is up, I will be posting away! For now, I leave you with a tiny little teaser from the new website…
