Caldwell Heritage Farm

I was honored this past weekend to be invited to help celebrate the grand opening of Caldwell Heritage Farm in Kelowna. Kristi and James Caldwell, along with their adorable two littles, hosted a very special soiree to commemorate the opening of their farm. A place where you can soak in the beauty of the serene surroundings, you can enjoy viewing the amazing heritage collection of farm equipment and so much more. If you like things vintage, you will be in awe of this place. Kristi’s dad was the curator, and did such an amazing job of creating something very unique, which K+J have organized and beautified, so they can share it with all their visitors.

And before you leave the farm, you can take advantage of the U-Pick Fresh Farm Eggs! So fun to get in there with the chickens and pick your own eggs. Yes, they have boots. :) You can also U-Pick their herbs and garden goodies as well.

And then I can’t not mention the thing that I am most excited about (being a wedding photographer – of course!). They are going to be hosting ceremonies for weddings in their gorgeous gardens. And you can do this as of tomorrow! Today! It starts right now. And know that this place is amazing. So serene. So beautiful. A photographers’ and brides’ dream.

Thanks so Mint Julep for the incredible cocktails during the evening. Ryan and I enjoyed ours fully (along with the adorable drink tickets, designed by Dandelion Willow) and the beauty bar florals by Lavender and LaceIMG_7199

The owners, Kristi and James saying a few lovely words of thanks to those who have helped them make this dream come true. And then a little close-up of James’ still – brandname on the equipment is Hillbilly Stills. hehe. Love that. Can’t wait to taste the goods that come out of his craft distillery…

And then the food. Joy Road catered this evening for Caldwell Farms and, as always, was oh so wonderful. DSC_1736

I know, a bit pose-y. hehe. But the light was INCREDible, and Ry wouldn’t let me take a photo of him, so he took one of me. And then we turned around and looked back at the house… So beautiful.DSC_1747

The eggs… and the ladies! So good!DSC_1755 And just to reminisce on one of my fave shoots to date, our beautiful styled shoot last year with Be Marry Events (when the baby chicks had just arrived!). Check out the full blog post HERE. This farm is something of a dream for me. I have had the opportunity to shoot there 4 times now, and still feel so inspired and haven’t had to shoot the same spot twice. Thank you Kristi and James for inviting me onto your beautiful property and letting me share in it with you. I know you are going to do amazing things and I am so excited to be here, able to watch  your farm flourish and grow.

my video

I am so excited to show you my new promo video by the talented Jody Hill Cinema!

I will admit, I was extraordinarily nervous about making this video. As most of us are, I was anxious about being in front of the camera. The idea behind this video was to show a very honest, very natural side of me and my business. But the idea of ‘making’ the video was fairly terrifying and very un-natural for me. But with the incredible talent of Jody, I feel this video truly represents who I am. Thank you for being patient with me and my gibber-y self, Jody!

I hope you can take 2 minutes to check it out and let me know what you think!

crunching numbers

I have labeled this week ‘Business Week’ in my office. I will admit, I am definitely a photographer first, business-woman second. I am not naturally number/business/marketing/sales savvy, but I love what I do, so I try to put the time in to learn the business side of things. I know that the only way to be successful and continue to be an entrepreneur is to effectively and pro-actively work on the ‘business’.

And fittingly, this past weekend we had a little celebration in honor of my smartypants hubby who is an accountant. Soooo business savvy and so smart with numbers. Yes, I am lucky, because I have the best resource for business in the world. And he helps me to no end… which I am so very thankful for. For his party, I had to get something fun for dessert, so I called up Sarah of Sarah’s Sweets in Kelowna and had her create a little somethin’ somethin’. Check it out –

DSC_1781This was my kind of “number crunching!”

And now I sit here dreaming of calculator cookies, getting ready to start learning a new software, taking time to learn a few new tricks on my current software, prepping my back-up systems for a new season, cleaning up my computer and filing my paperwork. Good times and Happy Monday!

happy day

Today is a big day for my little photography business. It’s the first official day of Janelle Photography.
I know, I know… you are all wondering, ‘but where is Paperclip Collective going’?
Well, no worries, because WE are going nowhere. Christina + I have realized, that as both of our businesses grow and change, we both needed our own unique websites that better showcase our own personalities and strengths. But we are still under the ever-fabulous umbrella of Paperclip Collective. One day soon, you will see Paperclip come back to play with some new and exciting changes. But one step at a time! So, today is about introducing you to my new photography website and brand, Janelle Photography.
Of course, the brand, the website, the blog, THE EVERYTHING is the work of Christina, who has become a guru in business branding and website design. If you haven’t come across it yet, Christina has a gorgeous design website at Paperclip Creative, and is working on creating a special addition for her wedding work. That will also be coming down the pipeline in the near future, so keep your eyes and ears to the ground!

For now, please take a moment to cruise my new site! Watch the little video, check out the new galleries and feel free to leave me some feedback on what you think!
