Marisa + Travis engaged

It started with a gorgeous sunlit hillside, a tire swing and the most lovely of couples. Marisa + Travis are getting married in June, and I am so excited to be on this journey with them. I had met Marisa once before, and I instantly felt such a connection with her. She is this extremely thoughtful, loving, caring person that I am so glad that I now know.

So when I met up with her and Travis, it was so great to see her other half. They are such a beautiful fit, and I can’t wait for the wedding day!

Mid-session, we switched locations, and with that, new lighting. The sun had just set, and we had this incredible summer glow coming off the lake. It was breathtaking. I usually end my sessions once the sun has disappeared over the horizon, but this has now become a new favourite time for me to photograph!

Sydnee + Carson Engaged

The laughing, the comfort, the ease. A boy obviously head-over-heels for the girl, and she adores him. They met just over a year ago, were engaged this past spring, and are now just over 2 months away from saying their marriage vows. To see love to clearly and so quickly is something special, and I feel lucky to be a part of their journey.

I love doing engagement sessions. For me, it’s a time to get to know the couple a little bit better. For the couple, it’s a time to relax during the busy-ness that is planning a wedding. Of course, wedding planning is fun and exciting, but also can be a little stressful and challenging. So, to give them an hour to just snuggle and laugh, it helps to remind the couple to enjoy the process and appreciate each other for this day, the wedding day, and all those days to follow as husband and wife. Finding joy in all the little moments is what makes a marriage work, and as I was photographing Sydnee + Carson, I could see this happening in front of me. They were truly just enjoying each other presence. Thank you two for opening up to me and just being yourselves. I hope you enjoy your photographs.

romance inspiration

There are so many things that I consider romantic. The big gestures, the little gestures, making me coffee every morning, stealing me a piece of cake from work and bringing it home for me…

And sometimes there is something to be said about ‘setting the mood’ for romance. One simple and effective way to create a little love in the air, is by lighting a candle or two. My favorite candles being from Voluspa (my sister got me hooked on these a couple years ago when she gave me one as a gift). They are heaven-scent, they last forever, and they come in these adorable tins or beautiful glass containers. Light up one of these and add a few additional non-smelly candles around the room, and poof, romance!

Candles are also an amazing way to create a beautiful, romantic air during a wedding day. This candle-chandelier from Stew and Kirsty’s wedding this past summer was adorable, and enhanced the candles adorned on the tables around the room.

I have yet to have the opportunity to photograph this, but one of my photo-dreams is photographing a wedding ceremony outdoors, just after sunset with a candlelit pathway to the groom. One day…

kari + michael engaged

In less than a year, Kari and Michael will be making it official. K+M may already be a great team, having been together for a few years now, but there is something so special about saying the vows and taking that first kiss and husband and wife.

For their engagement session, Kari wanted something different than what we are expecting from their spring wedding day, so we chose to chase the summer heat of August, and headed up the river banks from Osoyoos. It was a hoooottt day, but a little sweet stickiness didn’t stop us.

Thank you two for having me along, and I hope these photos serve as a reflection of who you are together… looking forward to the spring!

sarah + trevor married

“I never thought this day would come. I never thought I could find someone like Trevor, but I did…”
As Sarah and her bridesmaids prepared for the day, there were many tears of joy, of excitement, of love. I can easily say, Sarah put more love into each and every nook and corner of this wedding than I thought possible. The amount of handmade details and hand-written notes of appreciation, the air swelled of friendship and love.
From the beautiful private residence on Okanagan Lake, Sarah and Trevor got married with their closest family and friends present to help celebrate, and celebrate we did! With a gorgeous tent set up for lunch and an outdoor bar, the beach party was well underway by noon.
Two Chefs and a Table did a fab job of the food with some beautiful decor additions by Lois Lane in Kelowna. As I already said, so many of the details were hand-made by the bride herself or built by the groom. The afternoon was perfect with the hot Okanagan sun pouring down on us, letting everyone relax on the beach and enjoy each other’s company.
I actually met Trevor many years ago. Trevor is one of Ryan’s (my hubby) best friends right from when they were little gunners getting into lots of trouble. So within the first few weeks of me meeting Ryan, I also met Trevor, his wild and crazy friend.
In those first few years of knowing Trevor, I saw him as a world traveller. He was always checking out a new corner of the world or starting a sweet new job. Always on the move and always experiencing something new.
When the day came that he met Sarah,  he was running a boat-rental shop in Penticton and she was living in Kelowna. It wasn’t long till they had their own place in Summerland with a new beautiful puppy. I remember when I first met Sarah when she came to help celebrate Ry’s 30th birthday… she seemed like the sweetest person in the world. People like Sarah, you can see it in their eyes, the kind of soul they have… and hers was open, warm and beautiful.
Eventually, T+S ended up moving to Vancouver where Trevor started another new venture. He partnered up with a few other guys and began opening a chain of restaurants in Vancouver,  The Warehouse. So Sarah, Trevor and Indo set up their home in the big city and haven’t looked back.
This past winter, the two of them were on a vacation in Mexico, and they were snuggling on a blanket on the beach when Trevor got down on one knee and asked her to be his. You can check out their engagement photos we did using that same blanket from when T proposed.
And on August 3, 2013, this is what they did. She said yes, and he vowed to love her for forever.

Thank you two for inviting me to be a part of your day. It truly was one of the most special wedding days I have ever seen. I hope you enjoy watching the story of your day through these photos…

danielle + mike married

The few days leading up to the wedding, the weather had us worried. But on the day of, the sun was shining and the rain held off. Danielle + Mike said their vows on the beaches of Lake Okanagan Resort, and it couldn’t have been a more beautiful day. With an intimate group of family and friends, D+M enjoyed the day to its fullest.

Mike and Danielle met four years ago, and when Mike asked D to marry him on Christmas Day in front of their family, she of course said yes! These two compliment each other so well, and I truly loved spending time getting to know this pair. They are Albertans, they love their family, they are ridiculous and thoughtful and I feel lucky to have been a small part of this wedding.
