Carolily sparkles

There’s no lying that I have a bit of a soft spot for all things sparkly, so when Danielle of Carolily Finery contacted me to do a photoshoot using some of their jewellery, I was very excited!

Carolily is a mother/daughter duo made up of Danielle and her lovely mother, Donna. We met up in downtown Kelowna and did a little stroll, showing off some of their beautiful necklaces.

We were lucky enough to have three amazing women from our business community help with the modelling. Lisa from The 10 Spot,  Laura from Wink-i-Wear (which you’ll see her gorgeous frames in many of the photos from the shoot), and Sara, a mortgage broker in Kelowna. They were all so fun and easy to work with.

Here is a little taste of just a few of the photos. To see more, make sure you follow Carolily on Instagram or Facebook!

lauren + rob engaged

Engaged and almost married! Lauren and Rob’s wedding is tomorrow, and I was so excited to fit in this last minute engagement session with them before the big day. As we drove out to our location of choice, it looked like we were driving into the ‘belly of the beast’! The storm clouds were on the horizon, and the closer we got to our spot, the darker the clouds became… BUT, it held out for us, and we took advantage of the gorgeous colors of the sky against the open fields.

Thank you two for inviting me to be a part of your wedding, and I can’t wait for tomorrow!

gabi + james married

As Gabi walked down the aisle with her mom and dad at her side, it was written on James’ face how happy he truly was. As James read his vows to Gabi, the tears that welled up in her eyes told us the story of her love for him. It was a beautiful ceremony, followed by a kickin’ reception on the shores of Okanagan Lake. With a canoe filled with beer, a 4 piece band, beautiful details and the love of friends and family, I knew they were in for a great night.

The wedding was held at Gabi’s parents home in Kelowna. They incorporated local wines from the surrounding wineries, Cabana catering used local ingredients for a fresh, locally inspired meal, and Gabi’s earrings were designed by a jeweller at the farmer’s market. I admire their passion for the environment, their love for mother nature and the way they put those details into their day was very special. And to top it off, Gabi snuck James’ tie before their wedding day and hand-stitched her own label of love on the back. Congratulations you two, and we thank you for having us along on your day.

Loved the Toms shoes that Gabi wore throughout the day. Comfy and cute!  We made our way to St. Hubertus winery for a little wine tasting and a final few photos of J+G.Probably one of my faves from the day, simply because it was so funny. The dress was not cooperating, but Gabi is such a trooper, she made it happen!Beautiful details of fresh flowers and lavendar with wood and stone accents. To see more, watch the slideshow below.

Amber and the dress

Our final Rock the Dress for Breast Cancer shoot is up, with the beautiful Amber G in front of the lens. Amber was so easy to photograph and we just took advantage of the classic Laurel building in downtown Kelowna and the colored walls down the alleyways.

Thanks Amber for being a part of this, and girl, you are too hawt for words!

noelle + caprice

A couple weeks ago, a whole lot of photographers, make-up artists, hair stylists and some fabulous supportive clients all came out to raise money for Breast Cancer. The event was called ‘Rock the Dress’, and that is exactly what we did.

Hosted at The Delta Grand Okanagan Resort in Kelowna, the talented Melissa Dacre styled everyone’s hair for the day, and Sheleah Joy Curtain did the make-up artistry for these two ladies.

Noelle + Caprice are a mom and daughter duo who totally stole my heart! Caprice is an absolute natural in front of the camera, and her gorgeous mom made my job very, very easy.

Thank you two for being a part of this event, and I hope you enjoy your photos.

Noelle, you may be in trouble with this little one! A.d.o.r.a.b.l.e!

very special to me.

This is a very special post for me. You will see why below…

The first night Ry and I arrived, we were having such an awesome time eating dinner, laughing and getting caught up. We were the last to arrive to Hawaii. Mark, my big brother and his girlfriend Janelle (yep, same name!) had already been there for a few days. So, he’s chatting and starts to tell a story about this hike they found along the coastline. As he’s telling us about the gorgeous cliffs, yada-yada-yada, he non-chalantly says, ‘and that’s where Janelle and I decided to get married.”

At first, this story sounded like a nice little story about a hike. So even though I was listening, I was also totally enthralled in the amazing prawns we were having for dinner. So, when that last sentence came out of Mark’s mouth, I think I sort of sat there stun-gunned for a second. Aaand then it registered.

Ummm… pardon? I thought we were talking about a hike? What?! What?!!!! OH MY GOSH! I am sooooooooo excited!!!! And, of course, I began to cry! Apparently, the rest of my family already knew the night before, and they had made bets on whether I could cry or not. OF COURSE I would cry!

Janelle is this amazing girl. She’s funny and really goofy with Marko. She super cute and stylish. And her and Mark truly love each other.

We made a point of going back out to the spot where they got engaged and took a few photos. We only had maybe 10 minutes, but it didn’t take long to get some sweet shots of these two.

Congratulations you guys. I love you both so much, and we are so excited for you. xo

a wonderful year

I thought there can’t be a better way to start off 2012 by appreciating how amazing 2011 was. I know that 2012 will only get better, but if I can say how amazing all my clients of this past year were.

Here are some of my fave photos from 2011’s wedding season. Beautiful brides and their loving grooms. Thank you all for letting me be a part of your lives. I know I am better for it.

'tis the season

I love Christmas. Ry and I went to Starbucks this past weekend just for an hour or so. He did his homework, and I began reading a Seth Godin book, Linchpin. And I will definitely write a little review on the book another time, but this post…this post is about Christmas. And it all started with a gingerbread latte and the jazzy, Christmas music playing in the background.

Since Ryan and I live out in the sticks, whenever I get the chance to go and sit in a coffee shop and just enjoy the hum of the laid-back ‘busy-ness’, I am in heaven. I sink deep into a book or writing in my journal. I curl up between the arm rests of the chair and just let my mind relax. And it is the cherry on top of my sundae when I get to go with Ryan. Me doing my thing and him doing his, but we’re doing them ‘together’.

We also went out and hunted down our tree! As per usual, my eyes were bigger than our ‘living room’. Once we got the tree home, we realized it needed a haircut if it was going to fit inside the house! So we pulled out our shears, and gave it a solid trim.

For now, in the afternoons when I sit and brainstorm about my business in the front room, I curl up with my tea and stare at our lovely green tree. It’s not technically a Christmas tree yet because it has no decorations on it yet. I’m saving that bundle of joy for this weekend!

And lastly on a Christmas-y note, if you are trying to think of a Christmas prezzie for someone special, maybe the perfect gift is a little GC for a portrait session!E-mail me for the details on how to get yours!

behind the scenes

I don’t think this story would be complete without sharing some of the ‘behind the scenes’ footage from our little venture. Always a treat to see my goofy poses and stances when I go through Ryan’s photos from the day. Thankfully when I squat, I keep my knees together! Whew!

Uhhh, excuse me, Tim. You are in my shot. Tee hee…just kidding. I think I was in ‘his shot’… and that’s a good thing!

As Tim called it, our awkward family photo!

The ladies behind the scenes…Melissa you are so professional!

And lastly, my wacky face that I normally give just to my hubby when he does something weird, but since he is my second shooter and my own personal photographer(haha), now this face is for the whole wide world(well, at least the lovely peeps that come to read our little bloggity)!

And I’m sad to say that Christina’s beautiful face did not make it on film this day. Not sure how she managed that one! But, thankfully it won’t be long before she’s in front of my camera again… I believe it is actually 24 days and counting! So instead of digging up an older photo, you’ll just have to wait!
