And then magic happens

I’ve just gotten off the phone with a lovely wife-to-be, and I’m feeling humbled and very happy that they’ve decided to hire me as their photographer. Every time this moment happens, my mind quickly goes over everything that I want to ensure I give and complete for this couple…

Most basic:

  1. I want to give a set of beautiful images that fully encompass the big moments of the day, all the beautiful moments in-between, as well as photographs that simply exude their unique kind of love.
  2. A personal presence that is calming, at ease and warm.
  3. A confidence for my clients in knowing I will do my job fully.

And within those, there are so many little details that allow me to accomplish this for people.

Thompsonblog-76

It starts with how many weddings that I allow myself to do each year. I have realized for me and who I am, I work best and give my best when I am not overworked OR underworked. Taking a set amount of weddings each year has helped me to give my clients an experience that I can feel proud of.

I have also had to focus in on what I feel I do best, which is wedding photography. I am a bit of a hopeless romantic and if two people are lucky enough to find love, I am so happy to be there to put those memories and that love into photographs.

I know that each photographer has their own unique style, and each couple has a unique kind of love. The challenge of having the right couples find me and choose me to be their photographer, is one of my favorite parts! Even though this part can also be challenging and difficult at times, it is well worth it.

Because when I know I’ve been paired up with the right couple, magic happens.

Inspiration

I was going through the images from an amazing shoot I did this past spring, and I realized that I never shared some of my very favourite images with you! I am fairly in love with all things ‘baby’, and the photos of these baby chicks just melted my heart…

We were lucky enough to have this shoot featured on the 100 Layer Cake blog a few months ago, but the baby chicks didn’t make the cut. So here I am, wanting to post MY personal favourite shots from this gorgeous elopement in the woods.

When something starts off with flowers this pretty, it has to be good…

Heather + blair married

Heather + Blair made the trip down from Prince George to get married at the gorgeous Ponderosa Point, in Kaleden, BC. With Heather’s hometown of Kelowna not far away away, I think it was easy to say she felt at home getting married on the shores of Skaha Lake.

With just a slight chill in the air, it turned out to be a perfect day for this outdoor wedding. It made the snuggles and the cuddles a little more real, as Blair had to keep his bride warm!

H+B opted to do a first look, which was such a beautiful moment. Blair was completely blown away by Heather, and I loved being witness to that moment. His hands shot up in the air and he even made sure to take a few steps back to take her all in. Love.

It was such a great afternoon listening to the antics of their hilarious bridal party. Obviously a very tight-knit group, which made it a really fantastic afternoon.

And then they were married on The Point, overlooking the lake. The setting was perfection for H+B as they said ‘I do’. The evening continued and rolled into an outdoor tented reception with cocktail hour, lawn games, laughter between friends, and good food.

Thank you so much for the perfect end to my 2015 wedding season. It was a joy being a part of your day, and I wish you all the love in the world for your marriage.

my video

I am so excited to show you my new promo video by the talented Jody Hill Cinema!

I will admit, I was extraordinarily nervous about making this video. As most of us are, I was anxious about being in front of the camera. The idea behind this video was to show a very honest, very natural side of me and my business. But the idea of ‘making’ the video was fairly terrifying and very un-natural for me. But with the incredible talent of Jody, I feel this video truly represents who I am. Thank you for being patient with me and my gibber-y self, Jody!

I hope you can take 2 minutes to check it out and let me know what you think!

Vanessa + Jeff married

The day was beautiful, so full of love and so full of laughter, it was a perfect way to finish off such a lovely wedding season.
Vanessa and Jeff were married in Bertram Park overlooking Okanagan Lake. With the sun peeking out from behind the clouds, it was an amazing October day.
Watching Vanessa walk up the aisle on the arm of her proud father, it was all I could do not to tear up. She was looking up towards Jeff with her face full of emotion and love. They said their I do’s, and then made their way to the Eldorado for an amazing celebration that would go late into the night.
As you walked around the room, it was set up perfectly for a night of entertainment, thanks to coordinator, Bethany from Peace of Mind Weddings. Beautiful tables casually set for a night of socializing. With a photobooth in one corner, non-stop appetizers floating around the room, a dance floor, a cupcake bar and so many amazing family and friends. It really doesn’t get better than this. And did I mention the night didn’t end until poutine was served?! A perfect end to a perfect night.
You two truly do make such a special couple, and I am so happy that you are beginning the journey of husband and wife. I know you will continue to support each other and give each other so much love, and I couldn’t be happier for you.

kari + mike married

They were married on a beautiful, hot spring day overlooking Osoyoos from Spirit Ridge Resort and Winery. The sun was shining, encouraging the vines and orchards to burst with green at the start of the growing season. Kari, such a natural beauty, looked absolutely amazing as a bride, and our groom was not too shabby either.

I had met Kari and Mike last year where we talked about their wedding plans. We then met up to do an engagement shoot in the heat of last summer, which is where I first was able to really see them together and got me very excited for their wedding day…

Kari and Mike had opted for a first look, which was a very sweet moment. He waited for her in the vineyard, and they were able to share a few moments together, just the two of them (with me in the ‘wings’, of course).

We ventured into the orchards and the desert hills of Osoyoos for our photos, and then enjoyed the rooftop patio for the ceremony. There were a few clouds threatening in the distance, but they held off any weather and allowed us to enjoy a stunning day outside. With a few celebratory drinks and appies in the outdoors, we worked our way inside for the reception, where there was good food, great company, and some very special moments.

Thank you two for having me along for your wedding. I hope you enjoy these images and they will act as a beautiful reminder of such a special day.

Nikki + Greg married

Being a part of this very intimate, very special marriage was an absolute priviledge. I met Nikki and Greg last year for their engagement session, and it was here that I got to see how comfortable and how in love they are together. On the wedding day, it was no different. As Nikki prepared for the day, she had a very calm disposition, which comes when you know you are marrying the right man. Her flowing dress was amazing, and Melissa Craven did wonders to enhance this already stunning woman with her make-up artistry and hair design. She was ready to meet her groom.

Greg stood at the alter, and you could see it on his face the anticipation to see Nikki. As their family looked on, N+G shared beautiful, personally written vows and a few tears, making them officially husband and wife. Their reception was held at The Harvest Golf Club, where they had a beautiful table set up for their guests. The night finished with a romantic first dance lit by the natural night flowing in the windows.

Thank you two for inviting me along to capture your day, and I send you lots of love as you begin this next part of your journey as husband and wife. xoStumpf-blog-1 Stumpf-blog-5 Stumpf-blog-7 Stumpf-blog-8 Stumpf-blog-9

come and gone

Already half-way through December, and I am amazed at how fast 2013 has flown by. Such a wonderful year in so many ways, and I will be forever thankful for all of the moments that made up the days.

I want to say a huge, big, huggy thank you to all my brides + grooms from this past year. You are the reason I do what I do, and you are the reason I get to do what I do! I feel very blessed to have this business, and I am always so thankful for each couple that I get to work with. Here is a little rundown of a few of the images that I fell in love with this past year… so much love, so much romance, so much fun and joy…

Alexa + Rick Married

The day was a celebration of a beautiful love. The beginning of something special… a journey together as husband and wife.

Alexa and Rick met as teenagers and worked their way through high school as friends. But it wasn’t until a couple years after graduation where they began to see each other differently. Summer 2012 brought a new light over each other that soon turned to love. They were engaged early this summer, and within 4 months planned a beautiful wedding in their hometown of Princeton.

Beautiful details made up the day with their family’s support and love. They were married overlooking the valley, and even though the rainclouds followed us around, it made the snuggles a little bigger and let them enjoy each others’ arms a little more.

We ended our afternoon at the airfield, where Rick just finished his pilot’s license this summer. An important accomplishment before he and Alexa move forward into their life together…

Congratulations A+R on a beautiful wedding and what will be a beautiful marriage.  Nicholls-8 Nicholls-14 Nicholls-1Nicholls-21 Nicholls-5Nicholls-24 Nicholls-26 Nicholls-27 Nicholls-34 Nicholls-38 Nicholls-39 Nicholls-42 Nicholls-45 Nicholls-49 Nicholls-52 Nicholls-57 Nicholls-58 Nicholls-60 Nicholls-63 Nicholls-67 Nicholls-69
